DDLC was made by a white guy and supposedly inspired by a cult-classic Japanese VN titled Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi (localized by JAST under the name "You and Me and Her: A love story"), it gain big traction because the trope wasn't as popular in the west and back then totono hasn't received any official localization.
It doesn't give much impact on me personally but I think the drama surrounding the game production is also due to people claiming it was The revolutionary game just like how some people think omori defined the rpgmaker horror gaming

Diversify for the future. Yamada Darkness is young and quite aware that the hololive ride isn't forever. But most importantly she knows all of her brand cannot be tied to holo as when she eventually graduates, and that is a certainty with all vtubers, all she'll be left with are her sidegigs that she undertook, such as this fantia page.
I can't fault her because I would do the exact same thing; having Yagoo take 30% of what I make is one thing, having Susan Horsefucker take a bigger bite, then being taxed, and no wonder you see Noel posting her tits, AZKi still keeping an IRL office job, etc. And to answer the final question, yes the JPs need money really bad, especially now in faggotworld inflation crisis-time.

With that said, you still see vtubers punching in, clocking out like it's a job at the auto assembly line. The bare minimum, no passion or enthusiasm left. Maybe a sponsored game or tie in stream, then that's it. Again I don't fault them because entertainment is a clown's life, it'll devour your soul and drive you into some form of narcotic or some other vice as coping mechanism.

Corpo vtuber work differs from most internet personalities' online presence in that the moment their character is graduated their sources of passive income like ad revenue on old videos, music and merch sales etc. dry up; and they can't simply retire one project and explicitly direct their existing fans to a new one. If they don't already have an established 'roommate' persona as an open secret at that point they're back to square one with marketing themselves.

Calli/Demondice might be the most immediate "yeah that's obviously her" case that comes to mind but keeping the DD persona alive's an incredibly smart move business-wise. She has one persona with corporate backing and another with creative freedom giving her options for any project she wants to work on, and because it's so transparent that a not-insignificant portion of even her normie fans know it's her she can retire the Hololive gig whenever she wants and still have an audience.

It makes sense the other girls want that kind of job security; I think anyone who wants to work in entertainment long-term should keep their options open.

I was browsing https://nyfco.org/ recently and many profiles show long periods of diversification. AZKi, frankly, is insane. Her OL position, which considering her age might mean she has actual responsibilities instead of getting tea or shit, her touhou success as nayuta and her original 3 year charted course as AZKi all feel like individual full time jobs. Lot's of people take various opportunities because it's hard to predict success. Leveraging your existing content for potential new avenues is pretty smart and more chuubas should take care of their "portfolios".

I think much of this work is a labor of love which can explain a good amount of RM accounts. Roboco wants to show her cats off without asking for permission endlessly. Mel and Choco want to be able to play boob sumo with KSON and in general be socialible without the shackles of their characters. There are also fun official alt. accounts like Nene's beetle twitter and Pippa's birb account. Speaking of Pippa, Yuni has been quiet for good reason as she can't keep up with her official work. I think that is one of the most important aspects when talking about RM posting, once they are "mega idols" there might be more room to start whatever La+ is doing and the other side of the coin is stuff like Suisei's Heikousen Scramble show or Kamioka Family Radio with Shiina and Okayu. Last, considering painfully protracted battles for game permissions or EN collabs talents can be well served to have places where they can express themselves. Vesper's idea of playing games off stream to get around permissions is a neat idea but at a certain point it might be better for everyone to move to a "free" playground.

Just don't be a menhera like Matsuri or notRushia cause it won't matter that it's not really a main account.

I highly disagree. Charlie does a great job in making sure he adds to the content. Also the “regardles of topic or quality” sounds so bizarre, like that sounds like a contradiction. It can’t be both “bottom of the barrel” and high quality.

Tbh, a Holo having a menhera episode and deleting everything on her actual Holo accounts herself is not out of the question. Granted, Rushia is gone, so the most likely candidate's no longer there, but the occupation isn't famed for attracting the most stable of individuals.
