It's pretty accurate though. Generations are something that happen every few decades, meanwhile waves happen all the time. Even in their naming conventions, they tell everyone that they're going to dilute their own market.
Not the first time Japs tried to invent new English words just to shorten the original word. Heck, sandwich there is shortened to Sando, to the point that there is a brand of Sandwich being sold there named Sand.
