Live service killed gaming as we knew it. That games are worse sucks for people like me, but it doesn't matter: the majority of people are fine with modern gaming, and the cost-profit ratio is just so much, that there is no reason for things to change.

Unless the AI future overwhelms and destroys the normies appeal toward tech, and they go back outside and go back to clubs and bowling and shit, then things are just going to get worse and we really will live in the pods with everything just being more and more service based digital shit.

Why would some company realize and create an alternative? People will spend stupid amounts of money on DLC and microtransactions. There's no incentive whatsoever for corporations not to do this.

Plenty of real games out there, and what makes the most money by miles is the nickle and dime stuff. People will pay, so people will make.

I'm cringing at her whining right now because it's so far removed from how the industry actually works and just feels like she's just preaching to this particular choir to validate her own anger.

If all of us boycotted these publishers it wouldn't even make a chip; we'd go, and ten times as many children will replace us. That's what gaming is now. The best thing you can do is to support the stuff you do like to encourage more of it, because the stuff you don't like isn't going away no matter how loudly we all complain about it.

If they made the cartridges a different shape they'd need another slot, which would probably require a bigger form factor, and she'd complain about that too.

idk if its a catch all with live service, yeah for sure there are games that abuse the fuck out of it before slinking off with the money but you have cases for things like No Man's Sky. Game released and was disappointing as hell but instead of just shelving it they spent the next almost 10 years working on it for free and now imo it's one of the best space games out there. Shit devs are ruining live service like shit devs ruined DLC and microtransactions.

I can't see Nintendo going digital-only for a while yet. Their primary demographic are kids, and I feel like a lot of parents are probably still hesitant to put their card details into their kids' toys. Physical games are easy presents to give kids for their birthdays/at Christmas too.

Ya know, if Nintendo would want to really be Nintendo again, their next console would actually be VR.

I could actually see Nintendo pull it off. They focus on lower-tech games, as usual, so they're able to make the headset cheaper and more user friendly.

If anyone could bring VR into popularity, it'd be Nintendo. Virtual Boy was an aberration; 2028 Nintendo Virtual System could be it.

No Man's Sky is such an anomaly that I wouldn't even bring it up.
